FYI if any of you are following jellyneo.net's guide, it says that you're using averages to get the right property values... what they don't specify is that (though that is correct) there's a little more to it. If you combine two ingredients to get a total combined new value of properties and you're adding that composite which is actually two different ingredients to another ingredient, you have to take the properties of each individual ingredient and average those with the total property values and the total number of ingredients.
I started using Leafy Slorgblossom, Sharpgrass, Bloodfern Loam, and Crushed Jurpleberries.
I maxed out Leafy Slorgblossom on all actions giving me
conjuring +39 and enchantment +78
I also completely maxed out Sharpgrass giving me
conjuring +120 and enchantment +129
the sum of those two items was
conjuring +159 and enchantment +207 so then I divide those numbers by 2 to get my average... which came out to
conjuring +79.5 and enchantment +103.5
when I actually combined them, TNT rounded the averages up to
conjuring +80 and enchantment +104
Then I tried to add the Bloodfern Loam.... I maxed out its burning for
conjuring +60 and enchantment -30
I tried to figure the average.... the already made composition had:
conjuring +80 and enchantment +104 added to the Loam was:
conjuring +140 and enchantment +74 which would make my average when dividing it by 2 (one for the Bloodfern and one for the other full composite) gave me:
conjuring +70 and enchantment +37
When I combined them I had
conjuring +73 and enchantment +59.......
so where did I go wrong? Easy, you have to add up all of them... since the first composite was Leafy Slorgblossom and Sharpgrass which I added the Bloodfern Loam to, I had to take the original properties for the Leafy Slorgblossom and Sharpgrass, not the combined properties. Doing that I had
Leafy Slorgblossom conjuring +39 and enchantment +78
Sharpgrass conjuring +120 and enchantment +129
Bloodfern Loam conjuring +60 and enchantment -30
which gave me a total of
conjuring +219 and enchantment +177 and since that was 3 items I had to divide that by 3 for my average:
conjuring +73 and enchantment +59
Now all I have to do is figure out what I need the Crushed Jurpleberries properties to be to make the average of those 4 items
conjuring +82 and enchantment +83
So I multiply 82 by 4 which gives me a total sum of all 4 items of 328 and I already have a sum of 219, so I know that conjuring on crushed jurpleberries has to be 109 and my total sum of all 4 items on enchantment has to be 331 and I've already got 177 so then crushed jurpleberries has to have 154. This of course is completely possible since I know that maxing out burning gives crushed jurpleberries enchantment of 180 and maxing out crushing gives it a conjuring of 180... I've now just got to get the right numbers and combine them.
whew! that's a weird twist to the averaging stuff... which was what was throwing me off. I hope my frustrations have helped some of you all out
