Good luck! It sounds to me like your previous computer caught a nasty virus of some sort... Hopefully it won't happen again! I recommend having a firewall enabled and anti-virus software, if you don't already...

Sounds like a virus to me too. What kind of virus protection do you have? And is it set to receive automatic updates? I don't think I would format it just yet, until you are positive you don't have a virus that you can repair.
Vista isn't really that bad. It's not hard to get adjusted to. The only real problem I have with it isn't with Vista itself, it's the fact that a lot of programs aren't compatible with it. More and more there are patches available for them though. If you have a program that won't run correctly, chances are if you go to the manufacturer of the program's website they may have a free downloadable patch for Vista. I'm finding that more often all the time.
I've got my computer with XP back, so I kinda switch back and forth. It's in the den where my office is. I usually end up on this one though, because it's out in the main part of the house in the family room. (and the chair is more comfy! lol) I've gotten used to Vista enough that switching back and forth usually doesn't bother me too much.
I have noticed that I have to re-select the Neopet toolbard from the dropdown list everytime I want to use it though. It won't stay put, even when I lock the toolbars. That's kinda annoying. It doesn't do that in XP.

I hope you have better luck with Vista! One can hope though that your computer just has a bad virus and it can be repaired.

I did too, but I'm getting used to it now so it does get better.
If you really really hate it, and you have a registered copy of XP, you can format it and put XP on it. Mitch was telling me that Dell has started putting XP back on some of their new machines. He said it would be no problem to take Vista off this computer and put XP back on. He also said it would make it even faster than it is now. Vista takes a lot of machine power to run. So that's always something you can consider. I thought about it, but decided to leave it alone. More and more things are being configured for it all the time.
(even if your XP isn't registered, you can still install it...you just won't be able to get updates. I'm not taking any more updates on my XP machine anyway, even though it is registered, because it's an older machine and a lot of the updates just clog it up and slow it down. Mitch says a lot of them aren't even necessary. That's just for Windows updates...I still keep my virus updates on auto, and I run Windows Defender on it too.)

yeah i do have two registered copies of XP but i figure i'll keep trying vista out...i am just not sure what i can add and not add to it cause so many programs aren't vista capable and i don't want to mess this new puter up. i love some of the features on it and the didn't send programs with the computer so you can only keep those programs on here if vista is on here. i have burnt a back up copy that i hope burned correctly. i wonder what patches i should dl and whats no needed...oh well i guess i'll give it some time. but i can't find a foxfire dl for vista thats free and i have grown accoustom to the quick features of that drop down box....it made me too lazy to go search forthose places like omelette and jelly world.

Hmmm....I have no idea where Mitch got the foxfire he put on here. I'll try to remember to ask him. It may be a while before I talk to him though, since we're leaving Sunday. They're gone now and won't be back until we're gone. I can't imagine he paid for it, but he does have sources.

You're having trouble with Firefox on Vista? I installed it on my PC at home on Vista straight from the firefox website. What issue are you having?

I use IE all the time, and I don't have any problem with the toolbar other than the fact that I sometimes have to manually select it because it won't stay put when I close Explorer. I don't know about using it with firefox because I don't use firefox. Mitch does, so that's why he put it on this system. He says it is more secure, but it really doesn't appeal to me that much.
