I do not like this idea at all... it is very annoying! what if someone has something important to say about the topic on that thread? i mean they will just go create another thread... so whats the point of locking them... and if u lock them why let council members post in them if they are supposed to be shut down for posting in them? i donno i just dont understand!

I mod the Neopet General, avys, and Games thread. I only lock threads if they are double threads, like there has previously been a thread posted about it, or if a thread like Something Has Happened, has gotten to like 10+ pages I lock it and start a new thread. I have no idea why council members can post in locked threads... I am with you on that. But they are a higher rank than us which is why, another privellage with being a council member.

Council members aren't supposed to post in locked threads. Sometimes we can't resist though or sometimes don't notice... some of us are more notorious for not remembering/noticing to not post in locked threads.

I think we've all done it. It's easy to get caught up reading the thread and not realize it is locked and post in it.
But I think there is definitely a need for the ability to lock threads. There have been times when discussions got overheated, or a subject has been talked to death and it needs to END. Other times a thread needs to be locked because it is blatantly in the wrong area. The staff members need to have the ability to lock threads in order to do the moderating of the boards like they are supposed to do.
And as far as council members being able to post in locked threads, that is just part of our added privileges that we have worked to deserve. And yes, it is a privilege, or a perk if you want to call it that, but with that also comes the responsiblity to moderate the boards so they don't just become out of control and sloppy. I think most of us have had a thread that we started locked at some point or another, and it's not a big deal. Kinda makes you take another look at how you are posting, and try to adjust it accordling.

sometimes you lock threads that we wanted to post on and its locked and its not even ful and are in the rigth place wats up with that i remember that i had to lock a couple of your threads even though it wasn't full and was in the right place because it was a duplicate thread... it would be very difficult not to mention annoying to have to try to keep up with two conversations about the exact same thing... it makes the boards cleaner only having one thread about a certain topic that can be posted in... if you're referring to something else, i wouldn't really know why it was locked without knowing the exact circumstances, but most of us that i have noticed post why the thread was locked or at least post a link to the appropriate thread if it was a duplicate

It's quite alright. Glad to clear it up. It's not because we didn't want your birthday celebrated I'll make a note that all locked bday threads have a note that all bday threads are locked within 48 hours.

Thread locking..hmm, I can see how that could be kind of confusing as to do's and don'ts and why's...One thing that can possibly help minimize the duplicate threads is if when you start a new thread make sure you search to see if there's already been one created for that topic and if there's not one then continue on.. Anywho I see some questions have been answered in here..that's a good thing, so that there's less confusion.

Can't the duplicate threads just be deleted all together and send a message with the link to the original thread to the person who created the duplicate?? so there aren't just so many grey clouds floating around because they duplicates by accident? I don't mean to be a pain about it or anything I was just curious about that thought ;D
