A warning goes out to all Neopets users. There is apparently someone has figured out a way to exploit Neopets anti-javascript feature to add cookie grabbers to places on the site. Now for those of you who don't know what a Cookie Grabber is, I will explain. 99.9% of the websites you visit send your browser something called a "cookie". This cookie stores information about you, so the next time you visit the the website you don't have to login or other assorted information. When someone "grabs" your cookie, they can then get into your accounts and wreak havoc.
How can you protect yourself? Delete your cookies and change your Neopets password. Some sites suggest that you stay away from any pages where users can input data, but I would suggest you just log off and read the Neopets news. Just always assume a pet page, shop, guild, or anything of the sort has a cookie grabber. If you don't know how to delete your cookies go to tools, internet options, delete cookies.

gosh that is scary! i would be devastated if someone hacked my account. i have worked my hind end off building it to where i have it now. i am not sure if i were to get hacked i would continue playing neopets....i just don't have the time to be on the computer as i did back when i started playing. since we moved its like i can't get caught up keeping my house up. but alot of that goes back to hiring people to move me...my storage areas are packed with boxes i haven't gone through and able to put up and i don't want to continue piling more mess in the storage areas to have to go through when i am able to go down and get to it. i just feel totally unorganized and its driving me batty!

well the only thing that really bites is that if there are cookie grabbers on neopets...everytime you logged on you would risk having your cookies grabbed...and therefore the grabber would have to hack millions of accounts and yes they would wreck a ton of accounts but that would be a lot of work just for neopet stuff. and the only way to protect yourself is to change your password..but then again you still on the site...but log off and never log back on. cause i don't know just doesn't seem safe

Wow...thank you for posting that info., kristin. That sure seems a scary thought. I've worked so hard on my neopets and account up until now that I think if anyone ever hacked into it, I would possibly not rebuild it. I'm sure tons of people have put a lot of effort into making their accounts into what they are today and for anybody's to get ruined would be horrible! Be on the safe alert, everyone.

After you delete cookies, you can also run the yahoo Anti-Spy check to make sure everything is gone. If you have the yahoo toolbar, and you aren't using it, enable the toolbar and you will see a little yellow square with what looks like a red bullseye with a cross through it. If you click on that it brings up the anti-spy check. It's really fast and find most everything. Then it gives you the option to remove it. It's not a bad idea to do that once in a while.
Where did you find this info, cutie? Was it on the Neopets site? If it was in the news I haven't been taking the time to check it. I barely have enough time to hop on, check things over, do my giveaway, and get back off. Was it on there, or on another site?

This was posted by Dl... but since he is basically repeating a thread I am posting it here. This was taken from neojelly.net... We've had several reports of there being Cookie Grabbers on Neopets again! What is a cookie grabber?A cookie grabber, uniquely enough, grabs cookies from your computer. A cookie is a small text file with information about you that a website uses to know who you are (well, who your computer is). In this case, Neopets uses cookies to know that you are logged into a certain account. The cookie Neopets gives your computer contains your username and password. What's the danger?Cookies can only be read on the website that gives them. For instance, we at Jellyneo.net could not read cookies from Neopets.com. It's just impossible. However, someone has gotten around this by placing cookie grabbers on Neopets itself. So, the person employing this cookie grabber can steal your account information and then hack into your account. How can I protect myself?Protecting yourself is very easy. The best way is to avoid Neopets itself for a few hours until this mess is cleaned up. However, simply avoiding places where a user can input coding will also work. These places include Userlookups, Shops, Gallerys, Pet Lookups, Guilds, Noticeboards, and Neomails from unknown people. Also, stay off the Neoboards, as the person responsible is attempting to lure people from the Neoboards onto places with cookie grabbers. Help! I've been cookie grabbed! If you think you've been cookie grabbed, change your password immediately! This will almost always work. Plus, you can take advantage of the PIN Number that Neopets has recently implemented. This will add extra security for multiple sensitive areas. I hope that all of our users are safe and do not fall victim to a cookie grabber. Just follow the above guidelines and you should be fine. And also, there's no need at all to panic! TNT is working diligently to clean up any places with malicious coding, so there's not much need to worry. Just take a bit of precaution.

Due to the recent amount of cookie grabbers found on Neopets, a new security precaution is currently in beta testing. When you type code into your shop or gallery, it will be checked for any cookie grabbers, thus not allowing any cookie grabbers into shops or galleries. -Neolodge.com

my gosh! these people spend more time trying to cheat their way into np than if they put that same amount of effort into legitimately earning them.... and what's worse, I'd almost bet it's some 13 or 14 year olds that are doing it

I was restocking my shop again tonight and I got this really weird message, and I was so scared that I pressed back and didn't copy the message, which now I feel I should have. Than I logged out and did a disk cleanup and cleaned everything on my computer cause I was worried. But the message read:
"Blah blah fatal error.... cookie_hack"
Or something like that... Can't remember. All I was doing was searching items for their selling price. I clean my computer all the time, so I don't know what caused that. I still have my pets and money and everything so I haven't been hacked... Thank goodness.... knock on wood. Just warning all of you I guess.
