I battled him three or four times today. I could probably make it another five or six times but just barely.

If they keep getting harder we'll probably be out of the running quite quickly!

lol you got that right....i mean i made it successfully only a few times..next time i might not even get one win in..and that really hurts those members that don't battle but want to be apart of the plot or newbies that haven't been around long enough to train pets...i don't battle often but after the last war i decided i was gonna have one pet i could atleast get out there and attempt to battle with.

So I played five times. I could probably go at another five or so but I think five is enough.

Here's a quick overview of the method I use.
I'm going to use colors (Red, Orange, Green, Blue) because they're easier to type. Assume there are four rings for this example. A green light means the color is in the right position. A yellow light means that you've got the right color, but it's in the wrong position. The position of the green or yellow light means nothing.
1st try: set all rings to the first color: RRRR (result: no lights) ... this means there are no reds in the solution
2nd try: go to the next color: OOOO (result: 2 green lights) = 2 rings are orange, and obviously 2 are in the right position
3rd try: I know there are 2 oranges, so I'll only change 2 rings. This will tell me if there are any of the next color *and* tell me if my oranges are in the right spot -- OOGG (result: 1 green, 2 yellow lights) = I now know there are 2 orange rings + 1 green. Only one is in the right position. Since I had 2 green lights last time, I'm thinking that the 3rd or 4th ring should be orange, since that's the difference. Also, I now know that G doesn't belong in ring 3 or 4 and must go into ring 1. O stays in position 2 (or I wouldn't have lost a green light), and that the last color must be blue to give me the 4th light.
4th try: Now let's try getting things into the right position. G goes in the first slot, O stays in position 2, and let's move an O to the end -- GOBO (result: 2 green, 2 yellow lights) = all lights confirms the right colors. Two are in the right place. Based on the 3rd try, I think G is now right, and I've confirmed that O doesn't belong in the 4th ring. So let's switch the last two rings.
5th try: GOOB (result: 4 green lights)
~~~ This is the way I approach the puzzle. When you get more colors/rings, just extend the process.
Good luck!
So.....that's it? The plot is over? Seems very anti-climatic. I didn't even know that it was over, lol.
Yea I guess it is. I didn't know it was going to be a mini puzzle/plot. I actually kinda liked that. Short, sweet, mildly brain-wrecking but fun. Good story. I liked that a lot, actually!!
I have a hunch it's not over yet, though. They set up a lot of backstory with the professor and his daughter... is that the big wow moment at the end is that she got a piece of fruit? Woop-dee-doo, haha.
If it is in fact over I think it's just a mini plot that will lead to another mini plot (or maybe a big, full blown one) later on in the future... which I also think is neat. Because we still don't know how that hatch got there and why those petpets are so enormous.
I thought the ending was disappointing too! I hope it is not really over, just put off a bit because of the games. The petpetpet monsters are still pictured on the first battledome page, leading me to think it may not be over.
Interesting theories and entirely possible. I guess we will see.
Well, I guess it is official. TNT confirmed the plot is over in the Neopian Times:
"As for the Lost Isle plot, it is over. Well, it was quite open-ended, wasn't it? There was also that suspicious question mark after "The End." Curious. But no, it's over and prizes will be coming shortly. (The lad who worked on the code has been stolen away, unfortunately. The minute he's given back to us, he'll finish the prize shop! Hopefully this will happen in the next couple of weeks.)"
We'll see. It usually takes a while for the neopets team to give out prizes.
