I keep reading about Firefox here on the boards, and if I remember right Captvtng uses it. Mitch has mentioned it to me before...I think he has it on one of his systems.
Who is using it, and can you tell us a little bit about it? Maybe how it compares to IE? And if anyone is using it on a Vista system?

Sorry, can't really help you much on this one. My desk is crowded with an antique Mac (a Cube! and an original titanium PowerBook ), which are my primary computers, sitting next to a massive Dell PowerEdge server (running a couple of flavors of Windows, so I can mirror client web sites locally). All of the sites we build are tested to work with Explorer, Firefox, and Safari (on the PC), and Safari, Firefox, and Opera (on the Mac). Explorer is no longer supported on the Mac, which is just fine by me. Safari is the native Apple browser, and it's my preference mostly because it's got all my bookmarks. Firefox has fewer issues with Flash, Javascript, and Ajax, so I'd recommend that for anyone looking for a new browser. I have a hardwired prejudice against MS products in general because they tend to be buggy, ginormous (in terms of hard disk and memory hoggage), and assume the user is stupid (which annoys me in general). If you like IE and it's working well for you, then why are you thinking of switching? Maybe if we had some background about what prompted the question, we can better offer our experiences.

I use Firefox and Internet Explorer interchangeably. Actually, I find very little difference between the two. People swear by Firefox and condemn IE but I don't particularly find any dis/advantages over the other. If you're using an older version of IE, then one advantage of Firefox is tabbed browsing which helps keep bar at the bottom nice and organized with fewer windows.
Other than that though, there is very little reason to switch if you're happy with IE. I have both on my system because since they are different browsers, they have their own sets of cookies and since Becca uses my computer it's a pain to have to sign in and out of our different accounts like Neopets, Hotmail, etc etc. So with these two browsers, I use Firefox and she uses IE and we don't have to sign each other out of anything.
Firefox is more stable than IE but from time to time there will be compatibility issues with some things (like we saw with the guild layout).

My version of IE does have the tabbed browsing, so I guess there really wouldn't be any advantage for me to switch. That does make it convenient for you and Becca though...each using a different one so you don't have to keep signing in and out.

^Firefox also won't play the nifty music I just added to the guild front page, either. (Click GUILD MB at the top of the page to get there.)

Why not try each of them and decide if you like another? True, Explorer has been the predominant browser, but where they've dropped support for the Mac and are focusing more on plugging security holes than expanding functionality, they're losing ground to Firefox and Safari (especially as iTunes becomes more popular). Just remember that, as with anything, change will be uncomfortable. Give any new browser a chance.

(Click GUILD MB at the top of the page to get there.) The music doesn't play on *any* Mac browser. Given that it *only* plays in Explorer, my guess is that the syntax on your page is written to degrade to IE and does not support any newer W3 conventions. (I'm not really keen on the music overhead on pages, so that's cool by me.)
