So our next theme week is HAPPY HOLIDAYS and it starts on Wednesday, December 6th and will end December 20th a few days before Christmas! So what do you guys think would be some fun ideas for activities besides the regular competitions we do every time? Our annual guild advent will of course be returning! Since it's only for seven days, it will occur on the seven days leading up to Christmas.

Well I really liked your idea of a costume contest for Halloween so maybe we could have a festive pet activity.

Here's an idea, along the lines of what Nfty just posted. What if we had our pets "decorate" a Christmas tree and have a contest for the best tree with a neopet theme? Maybe dl could make a blank Christmas tree that can be downloaded, and then we could decorate it and submit it like we did for the costume contest? (although hopefully with more participation) I suppose we could decorate a Gingerbread house too. We've had the gingerbread decorating before (although not an actual contest) so maybe a tree would be different. We could have a thread to post your favorite Christmas receipe in. That wouldn't exactly be a competition though, more like just an activity. We could compile them and put them in a downloadable file for everyone to keep. Or......instead of a tree, we could decorate an ornament from a basic design, using a Neopet type theme. We could have a contest on writing a Neopet themed Christmas carol. The actual music could be from a well-known Christmas carol and we would just have to make up new words. One good one for that might be It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. Okay, there are a few ideas. Whoops...just thought of another one. What about designing the front of a Christmas card using a Neopet theme? Instead of the usual drawing or coloring contest, we could design a Christmas Card front. Okay....I think I'm done now.

I think Christmas tree is neat but I think Gingerbread house allows for more creativity/variety. Lots of great ideas there though bunnyrabt! I especially like the decorate an ornament idea too maybe make that like our coloring contest competition. Christmas carol/poem sounds fun too. Oh I forgot we'll also be doing our Secret Santa again this year but we'll need to have someone run it again.

I know we had the program where you could go make the gingerbread house, and then we posted them. Did we have a contest with it though? I can't remember. I guess I could go look through the posts but tonight I'm short on time and I'm being lazy too.

All these ideas are exciting! I can't wait for Secret Santa, if we hold it. I love Bunny's Christmas Carol contest idea. Apart from contests, here's a suggestion - we could have a thread/separate threads about Christmas/holiday games and post the link, sort of like the fun Halloween game Bunny posted in Kickback Cafe. I know I would enjoy playing some of these that people find. Oh! Also, this might exhaust us if we do it *and* Secret Santa, but I think a fun idea would be a Stocking Stuffers event, simliar to the Ghost of Guildly Past. Throughout the theme week, you could send random items to anybody...and send maybe a generalized message, like "Better check your stocking! Happy holidays! From, _______." ;D Teehee. I'm excited.

That sounds like fun, Fullbloom. I don't think it would be as much work as the secret santa, so I bet it could be done along with the ss.

That does sound like fun fullbloom. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I absolutely love the Christmas theme week that we do in the guild, it's one of the highlights of the holiday season. (I don't have any family here in Hawaii, well besides my husband , and it's too expensive to go home-Texas-for the holidays so I like to hear what everyone else is doing ro the holidays and as corny as this probably sounds consider all of you guys my second family.) Anyway....if there is anything I can do to make this theme week even better just let me know. Finals for me are on Dec. 16, but I should be able to find time for theme week activities during that time, hopefully. Oh and sorry about not being that active during the Halloween theme week, my computer was going through the whole "ActiveX" problem again, but thanks to dl's advice from last time I was able to fix it again pretty quickly. Opps, didn't mean to ramble.

You weren't rambling, kris. I think it's nice to read some personal info about members now and then. And it's not corny to think of us a second family, especially when your real family is so far away. I bet sometimes that is really hard for you. At least you do have beautiful surroundings to make up for it a little bit. I'm looking forward to Christmas theme week too. I'm starting early this year on my decorating and shopping so I'm hoping by the time we do theme week I'll have the free time I want to devote to it. We're getting so many great ideas, and it seems like everyone is fired up about it already! That's a good sign.

I'm sort of in an alternate mode from you, Bunny. hehe I'm so busy these days that I'll probably end up doing a lot of my Christmas shopping (on here and in real life) pretty late. But I am definitely in agreement with the excitement...I know I'm ready for this theme week.

I think we should definitely do a gingerbread house contest. That was a great idea Bunny. Also, I really like the idea of posting your favorite holiday recipe. Maybe we could also have a thread sharing our different holiday traditions. I think we should definitely see an increase of activity during December since we have so much to offer, and neopets also has the advant calendar.

well the only problem with the gingerbread house was there were only so many options you had for decorating...if we did like a color sheet tree decorating contest...and that way we can use our own choices instead of pre selected items like we do coloring sheets it would bring out more creative output i think....i never could get mine gingerbread house to save or post...cant' remember what the problem was...but i do enjoy the coloring events..not sure if that would be too close linked to the coloring contest but i think it would be fun. and i like the stocking stuffer idea too...

Although I'm a Christian who celebrates Christmas, it would be kinda cool (I think) if we had a non-denominational holiday celibration. Gingerbread houses are good, except if we've done that, then let's do something new this year. How about having a boring old fireplace mantle with a couple of chairs or stools around it.. (I'm sure our talented artist-in-residence, DLfreak, could come up with a generic canvas for us.) Members could decorate the fireplace with the things that mean the most to them during the holiday season -- a menorah on the mantle, a christmas tree beside the fireplace, and things like that. That way, we get a broader sense of what the holidays mean to all our guild members, without necessarily restricting it to "christmas." And, while we're brainstorming -- Dlfreak, I need a giveaway thread of my own starting on Dec 1. Trust me, okay?

Did you see my post a ways back? It had a lot of different ideas in it...the ornament and Christmas Carol contest would be some new things.
The fireplace idea was a good one. That could get a lot of varied results.
I do think I'm kinda partial to staying with the Christmas theme though. We could maybe have an alternate thread for different holiday celebrations. Do we have a lot of members who don't celebrate Christmas per se?

I happen to be one of the members that does not celebrate christmas, I think it is a good idea to have a different thread to share on...That doesn't mean I won't participate, of course i will ;D... I love all the theme weeks we have and have already started buying things for my givaway thread during the 2 week theme in dec...I look at this guild as my second family also, it is always so supportive, during the good and bad times...Thank you everyone!!!! :)Be well and catch ya on the flip side...lol

The title of the thread is a misnomer. We never have Christmas theme weeks, they are always "Happy Holidays" Theme Weeks as I mentioned in the body of the post. Thanks for catching that though!

I guess I always just think of it as Christmas theme week, but we do always call it Happy Holidays. We don't want anyone to feel left out. Most of the contests do seem to be pointed towards Christmas though, so I guess that's why it always seems like that to me.
