had to look up the years from 20's to 40's but i do know the names of the artist but thank goodness before my time and wasn't sure who was what when. so it says in the 20's jazz was the thing...artist such as duke ellington were the think...along with dances such as the charleston and flappers were big and another artist was bessie smith. 1930s- the only one i knew of was josphine baker..jazz and blues were hot. 1940s - the andrew sisters, and benny goodman were the only names i knew...still blues and jazz predominate music styles 1950s and up are more my taste... that is when you start getting into the beginning rock and roll groups and doo wop musics..fats domino, elvis, chuck berry, frank sinatra, the fleetwoods, richie valens, paul anka, bobby darin, ricky nelson, little richard, jerry lee lewis, the platters, buddy holly, the coasters, bill haley and the comets, nat king cole, were some of the big name artist or groups. 1960's the year of motown arises... temptations, the beatles, the supremes (diana ross not solo yet), the beach boys, the four seasons, stephen wolfe, the foundations, the mamas and papas, the miracles, elvis, the monkees, lovin spoonful, three dog night, jimi hendrix, ray charles, van morrison, the four tops, marvin gaye, stevie wonder, rolling stones, the doors, wilson picket, mary wells, aretha franklin, ben e king, sam cooke, the drifters, and the kinks were prominate music groups...rocking roll and motown/r&b are strong at this time. punk intergrating in this era. 1970s - the jackson 5, the osmonds, paul simon, jim croce, led zepplin, the doobie brothers, the commadores, Lynyrd Skynyrd, elton john, grateful dead, the carpenters, abba, jimmy buffet, the eagles, the climax blues band, rod stewart, tom petty, blue oyster cult, foreigner, aerosmith, blondie, bee gees, eric clapton, cheap trick, gloria gaynor, kc and the sunshine band, chicago, billy joel, the cars, JOURNEY, the village people, the police, the knack, and kiss, here is a strong convergence of many music types...a strong intro to punk, hard rock, disco making a strong stand. 80's this is the year that rap made its introduction on society. sugarhill was i believe the first to come out with a record that was in the dance clubs. they made classic rap songs called rappers delight, and apache...this opened the door for what we call rap today. and actually this might have been the end of the 70's if not early 80's. then you have artist like phil collins, robert palmer, linda rondstant, john cougar melloncamp, prince, michael jackson (the album the wall was released in the 80's), AC/DC, bon jovi, van halen, madonna, janet jackson, bruce springstien, j. giles band, the go-go's, toto, queen, lionel richie was solo, billy idol, U2, the bangles, tone loc, whitney houston, foreigner, joan jett, simply red, the pointer sisters, george michael, david bowie, paula abdul, guns and roses, thomas dolby, i would say new wave which not sure they still call it that but this was the type of music most popular in the clubs, it was a mild punk music..head banging was the rage...disco was dead, but pop was hot as well like prince and michael jackson..then came madonna and well you know that story. 1990s can't tell you much from here out...hope this helps..

oh i think i could write a great music history paper that is something i love...music that is. i lived through the 70's and 80's but had a good background in the 60's from older siblings. plus being a former dj helps when you work at an oldies station. i just love music! if only i couldn't have taken those in college my gpa would have been tops instead of average.

it was the coolest...but i also sold the stations advertisements...i wrote and created the ads for the air...that was fun too...it was just all around a cool job..not a great paying job but a fun job. i guess if it were a big big time radio station it could have been but it was a neat station.
