Anyone have a favorite musical? Does anyone participate in musicals at their school? I played the clarinet and tenor recorder in the pit orchestra for Pippin one year. Besides that my school has also performed Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, after I graduated they also did Chicago and Cats. I'm not sure what my favorite was, probably Chicago I guess.

My high school is doing Grease this year..it fits perfectly with the new American Idol-like reality competition, You're the One That I Want.

I'm going to see WICKED in March, I'm excited for that but I've only seen RENT and the LION KING in person. I loved THE PRODUCERS the movie with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane, though.
For movie musicals, I LOVE Wizard of Oz, Grease, and several others but above all: Mary Poppins is one of my biggest favorites.

I want to see Wicked. I read the book, but I think I will like the musical a lot more. I LOVE musicals. I like the old musicals like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, On the Town, White Christmas, Meet Me in St. Louis, No Business Like Show Business, there's just too many to list! Unfortunately, my husband can not stand musicals.

I would love to see Wicked! Hope it comes here sometime soon. I've seen Phantom and Les Mis in person. I missed out on the Lion King when it was here recently. I also really like Cats, Rent, West Side Story, and Grease.

I'm not really big into musicals. However, I've always loved The Wizard of Oz, ever since I was a little kid. About two months ago I saw a local production of the musical Calamity Jane, and it was actually very awesome. It had just the right amount of humor, and I didn't even mind all of the cheesy western style musical numbers.

I'm really starting to warm up to musicals within the past year. It's so much fun to see people perform these songs live with all the emotion and story and everything, its just great! It's also SO EXPENSIVE though!! Still, what a blast.
WICKED was INCREDIBLE. Kris... you really need to watch it, it's a beautiful thing to see... I'm reading the book right now and so far A LOT of the book is different from the musical. I'm up to page 130 right now and there is a lot that is either not in the musical (obviously) and a lot of stuff that was different or changed. For one... Nessrose has arms but she's in a wheelchair.
My friend just invited me to go see RENT again, I dunno if we'll make it though.

Dl, you must be as rich in real life as you are on Neopets. How are you able to fork out enough dough for Disneyland passes, musicals, and whatnot...all having just gone to college?

It's good to know that the musical is different than the book because the book was dark and I was trying to figure out how they would make a musical from it in some parts.

Yesterday evening I went back to my high school and saw their production of Grease because a few of my friends were in it. It was amazing, to say the least. The lead girl (who played Sandy) had a jaw-droppingly good, sweet voice. It was definitely high enough to get those hard notes. Danny could've been better chosen, but the guy could act. I enjoyed it a lot.

I was in Grease in high school. It was so much fun. I was the "beauty school dropout" girl. I can't remember her name. I wish I could still do stuff like that, it's so much fun.

I think Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical. I was in the chorus of Cinderella and I was a storyteller in Once on This Island in high school, and I love both of those. Then in college I was in the chorus/understudy for Yum-Yum, Pitti-Sing, and Peep-Bo in The Mikado and I starred as Loretta in the opera Gianni Schicchi (a little different than a musical, but still hilarious!). Actually, The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance rank right up there in my favs...

I do like Phantom too, the music is beautiful. But...probably my favorite is Grease. (I have a THING for John Travolta) We have a karaoke deck in our sound system, and Art and I sing all the duets from it.

Cool you live in Southern California! I live about 45 minutes away from the Pantages (with traffic). We saw Wicked last November, can't wait to see it again. We really want to try the lottery which is for $20 front row seats... how wicked would that be to get those? Pun sadly intended.
