Hey everyone! I'm going to be competing in a singing competition this Thursday! I have to sing a 2 minute (or less) piece a cappella...no background music! I'm planning on doing Rachmaninoff's Opus 21 No. 7 "How Fair this spot"
Wish me luck! ;D

Wishing you luck! Any particular reason why you chose that piece?

Wishing you luck! Any particular reason why you chose that piece? I picked that one because it shows off my range and clarity of tone really well...and it shows that I can do foreign languages...and I really like it...and, best of all, it's less than two minutes! Tee-hee! Thanks for your support everyone! I'll see what I can do about making a video of my audition and posting it.

Oh an audition video would be neat too... I just meant a link so I can hear what the song sounds like since I don't know what it is.

Here's the best sound clip that I could find. Unfortunately, it stops before the best part in the song: a high B! That's my favorite part! It's so liberating! *ahem* anyway.... Just click on the Listen link next to track 2 (Song Op.21 No.7). My voice isn't as dark or heavy as hers though. I've been classically trained and have been in an opera, but I don't really have the traditional "opera" voice. I'm more suited to art songs and the like. My teacher calls me a lyric-spinto soprano (for any of you who may be voice students or music majors tee-hee!). music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?ean=28947763840&pwb=1&z=y

Nftysqrt was a Music Major, she was in the marching band at USC so I'm sure she would understand what all of that means, lol. She sings a bit too but nothing major, mostly for her temple choir.

best of luck Autumn sorry for the top post. clicked by mistake. You have the ability to delete your own posts. There is a link the top right corner where you can delete your accidental post. I'd delete it myself but I thought I'd let you take a crack at it.

I think it went really well....There were a LOT more people there trying to audition than anyone expected. I'm so glad I got there early! I pretty much had my pick of the time slots. I didn't get to finish the song, so I was a little disappointed about that, but it was chilly and my voice might have cracked just from me being cold and shivery, so I guess it might be a good thing after all. Goodness that was a really long sentence!!! Anyway, I probably won't know for a while if I made it to the finals (there are still four more audition sites in the northern part of the state to get through)...although my husband could see over the judge's shoulder a little bit and said that he was bolding certain names in his notes and mine was one of them, so that sounds promising. Thanks for all your well wishes! I'll let you know the results as soon as I find out!

thats awesome...i have rented out my basement to an artist...he has a rock band and they are called johnny memphis and the junkyard dollz.....he is extremely talented. as a matter of fact one of his songs is featured on my myspace profile. they were signed to a major label this past year and had started touring when after i think he said the first booking but they were involved in a car accident on the way home from this gig and lost two members of the band...they will be starting out again this spring on tour....so (crossing fingers) hopefully his career in music will really take off....he not only sings but is the principal song writer. you have to go listen to the song on my profile its beautiful!!!! he has several cds out already...and all toll he has sold over a million i believe is what he told me..just not all of the same cd....he plays for me all the time and he has great things to come....good luck with your touring!

That is so sad! I'm glad that he was able to keep pursuing his dream, though. A lot of people would be too devastated to continue after something tragic like that. I'll have to check it out!
