So I think my comptuer crashed. No fun. Hopefully, my co-workers will be tech savvy enough to help me retrieve files that I don't yet have backed up. It really stinks because I haven't backed up since I reformated my comptuer back in August so that means every single picture and every single everything I've done on the computer since August could potentially be gone forever. Thanksgiving, Christmas, all my DL trips, all of it GONE. Very depressing thought. Anyway, for the time being my time online is pretty much only while I'm work or when I can squeeze some time in on my brothers slow computer.

if you know of someone who has an external hard drive and someone who is technologically talented they can move your files to the other hard drive and put them back on your computer..just hope that the one that gave your puter the virius isn't moved. good luck with that..i know its horrible also there is a site called pc professor or pc pro? i am not sure if thats right or not but it will do a diagonstic test on your computer and tell you what the problem is and tell you how to fix it. i will ask the guy who ran it on mine its exact name and get back to you on it.

Thanks fairy! Actually, the computer won't even start so I couldn't go to any sort of website to do anything. A co-worker of mine said he'd take my hard-drive, put it into his PC, and burn DVDs with all my data. That is assuming of course, that my hard drive isn't fried to begin with.

It appears to be working. He's made a few DVD data discs so far... I need to test them out though to see if the files aren't corrupted.

I wasn't so lucky. My hard drive completely died. We just got home from Mitch and Kari's a while ago, and Mitch installed my new drive and put XP on it, so basically I have a new computer that I have to start from scratch with. I think all my important files were backed up on my external drive, so I think I'll be ok. But, I still have to reinstall all my programs, set up my email, etc., all over again.
I've pretty much decided to keep my old pc and let Art have the new one with Vista on it. My new drive is faster than the old one so I think my computer will be fine. So much depends on your connection speed anyway. The only thing I think I'll miss by not using the new one is that it has a built in card reader that takes four different sizes of cards. Oh well. You can't have everything. (well you CAN, but not unless you spend a small fortune)
I hope your data is recovered in full, dl. I know how disappointing it would be to lose all your files. Keep us posted.

To update everyone on why things have been so slow here at the guild with me gone (I wasn't even able to do my Annual April Fool's prank ) I just bought myself a brand new hard-drive. I went with a Western Digital Hard Drive Kit - 250GB I think I landed a pretty good deal on it for $80. You can view its specs here: www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=131218Anyway, so the backing up of my crashed hard-drive went semi-well. A lot of stuff was recovered. The only problem is that the recovery program could not go in and selectively recover stuff so it recovered EVERYTHING on the hard drive. Not only that but it categorized everything by file type (Image, video, etc) AND renamed them all. This is GOOD. I recovered a whole lot of stuff that might otherwise be lost forever. However... This is BAD. I have literally 1000s of images (not just guild images but personal pictures, and every other image that was on the hard drive including thumbnails and advertisements that were in the internet cache history) in literally no particular order, with no identifying file names. I haven't had the time or, more importantly, the heart to try and sift through it all to reorganize everything. I still have some alternative methods to try (thanks to bob) but I've been rather apathetic in trying to get this done mostly because I fear that nothing more can be done and I just don't want to have to sort through all of those images. Anyway, thanks to my brothers slow computer (but hi-speed internet connection) at home I'm still able to get on to Neopets (I did all 31 days of the Daily Dare!!) and to take care of pressing internet matters, email etc. That doesn't leave much time to develop time and things for the guild, unfortunately and it kills me that this is happening in a time when I'm trying to turn things around. Once I get my hard-drive, I'm hoping that having it staring at me will force me to get my issues resolved with the old one (to try and back up the data) that way I can install the new one and have my own computer back!

Wow dl, that sounds like quite an ordeal that you went through. I am glad that you were able to get everything back though.

Not everything. A lot of files corrupted and did not save properly. I still have the hard drive I just need to find different ways to try and back it up.
