this is our new puppy Cash Sheu. He is a borer collie and its so true how intelligent they are...we got him about a week and a half ago...he is high energied as crap and having the hardest problem learning his "potty training skills" but - i have taught him to fetch and he brings back the ball, he knows how to sit, lay down, jump up on command and crawl....also making him now jump over my leg and clear it before fetching...he loves the jumping, fetching and lol he loves to crawl...he could literally play fetch all day..and if i am playing games he gets the ball..comes up beside me..drops it so it thumps...if i don't pay attention to him..he will pick it up and drop it loudly until i play with him or he gets tired of begging me...hes a fun fun puppy! we didn't get him until he was 11 weeks old...i called a breeder in south carolina..about a 4 hour drive from where i live...and she was wanting $500 for her regular colored BC's and $800 for her marbled colored BC's..i told her i thought i'd have to keep looking for a puppy..then she said well....i do have this one puppy..he was born Feb 28th...the night they were born..the kennel they were born in, heat lamps broke down...she had a strange feeling and went down to the kennels at 6 AM which was not typical..to check on the mother..and discoverd the lamp had died....she moved the puppies inside by the fireplace and wrapped them up in blankets..but my puppy had suffered damage and had one ear that got frostbite..and he lost most of the one ear...but he is still beautiful to us....and we got the puppy for 150.00....i told her we had no intentions of a beauty contest anyway..so his ear wouldn't effect us at all.

OMG, he's adorable!!!!! My friends Beth and Merlin have one too, and her name is Lucy. Get ready.....lol Lucy ate an ENTIRE couch. Better get in lots of chew bones!!!!! But Lucy is a sweet girl and has grown out of that now. They are very smart dogs. He has the prettiest eyes! And who cares about his ear. That just makes him more unique. They're easier to clean that way too!

lol ate a whole couch!!!!! its funny cause i read about another BC that ate up someones couch!...while he is young..i won't leave him inside to sleep...at first he was sleeping with me til he got too use to his new surroundings...now he sleeps out in the porch til i get up and going..then i take him out to potty and then clean up any accidents he's had. they do get bored easy unless constantly entertained...and i know most puppies enjoy chewing shoes (first it carries the owners scent) sooo when we got him i went threw the kids old shoes and gave him one of the kids shoes they didn't wear anymore...he has demolished that and drews old flat soccer ball...lol he not only ripped the cover apart but pulled the rubber ball that was inside of the leather covering....he loves slinging it around in his mouth and growling at it....we're trying to teach him agility and soccer....he gets so mad and fusses at the basketball drew has cause he can't pop it...drew will kick it in between his feet and cash will snap at it and growl ..its hilarious to watch how upset he gets over this ball

lol if i have puppies i hope to sell them lol....cause these are so hyper i couldn't stand a whole house full....maybe after that i might build kennels and then make it a job...because these puppies do seem to cost a good deal...so it would be a good investment...but the boys would have to be commited in helping me...which i don't see that happening...so if that happens, i'd let their owners name them lol..cause yes i would have to come up with some odd names...

I think that would be a great idea! Most of the time breeders can sell the puppies between 7 and 8 weeks, and I think they are a lot calmer then. At least Lucy seemed to be and so were her littermates. I went with my friend to visit her twice before they brought her home. She started getting wound up after that. Probably since you got Cash a little later than that he's already in hyper mode. Keeps you hopping, doesn't he? lol Anyway, my point was that if you didn't keep them past 8 weeks I think they would be easier to manage. And if you did have one or two that didn't sell by then it wouldn't be too bad. Maybe.

the breed is hyper anyway lol...i mean he never is ready to quit..he will lay down and sleep if he gets tired of sitting at my feet constantly picking the ball up and dropping it and me not play....but he is alot of fun....he's spoiled as crap..just wish he'd do better with the potty training..he does go outside but if he doesn't go straight away..he gets occupied by a rock or a branch that moves...and you can't tell if he is giving you a "lets go potty" clue cause he is constantly sniffing around...he is gated in the kitchen/den combo.....or on the screened in poarch...both areas are easy to clean up but still...i rather not have too!

He'll get better. He's a smart breed, so it probably won't take him long. His little body just has to catch up with his mind.

i sure hope not..its the one reason i decided i wanted this breed..their intelligence...and easy trainable skills....and i hate the potty training part of puppies....someone suggested i start with paper then move it outside..but to me thats just a step that isn't needed...

Aww, what a cutie! Lol, yeah with border collies, or any herding breed for that matter, you have to make sure they have plenty of time and room to RUN! That's what they were bred for. My family has a border collie/shetland sheepdog mix and she's the same way. Our purebred shetland sheepdog was pretty mellow for her breed, but the vast majority of them are extremely hyper unless given tons of exercise. You might want to try crate training him: Just get a good sized kennel at the pet store, and let him sleep in it, and keep him in it when you're away. Then, as soon as you get up in the morning, or come back home, take him to where you want him to potty. Dogs are den animals, and they don't like to go to the bathroom in their den (in this case, the crate). If you use a leash on him when you take him out, you can train him to only use a specific area of your yard to pee/poop in. Works great with smart breeds like yours.

I agree with autumn crate training is best my Bandit is part border collie, sheltie and Jack Russell, talk about hyper. but he took to crate training and is very good with his duties. He is outside most of the time but will only go in the lower part of the yard. I have never stepped in a pile. He was easy to train to sit and fetch.

well i do have a crate...i just haven't used it..i guess the screened in poarch has been his domain but he still pottys there...i just put a bell around my door knob so when we go out to potty i ring it and its on a long string where he can reach it....i saw this on utube....and inside the house he is only allowed to go in the well i've told you guys..kitchen/den combo..and generally i am in this part of the house the majoritity of the day...my backs just to him and i can't see what he is doing...sometimes i turn around catching him in the act of pottying and i can fuss at him....and take him straight out..its been a few days since any accidents inside..but also feeding him early so he won't have many night time accidents on the porch....i don't want to crate him cause our sleeping times are so off and i'd hate for him to suffer with a full bladder....we've been staying up so late and waking up late...but i've told drew he has to take him out as soon as he wakes up....not nearly as many accidents thank goodness but still some....i think as he matures he will be able to handle longer periods of time without "having' to go...besides during the school year...i take him out before i go to bed which maybe 2 am..then he goes out as the kids go out to head to school at 7:30.....then i go back to sleep and take him out when i get up around 11 am....but we are way off that schedule at this moment....drake my oldest if he would take out the puppy when he woke up...it would be even better...he still wakes up around 9 or 10 am...but last night i couldn't sleep it was 7 am before i ever fell asleep....
