Go to the website and read what's required of you to be a gift giver, and then let me know what you decide. You don't really have to submit the application on the website because it has to come to me, and dl still has it set to go to him, and he forwards it. You can just message me here. Please be sure if you decide to do this that you will be consistent and stick with it. (I'm not saying that I think you won't, just that in the past we've had a lot that didn't after we had gone to the trouble of opening their thread, putting their name on the website, etc. You get the idea. Message me if you want to become a gift giver after you read the job description. Thanks!

Ok well it sounds pretty basic. My only question is it says you have to give gifts to active members. I want to continue doing the game the way I have been, awarding people gifts for correct answers. As I imagine the person would generally have to be active in order to be answering my question, there is a chance an inactive member could see it, know the answer, and just give the answer for the prize. I personally don't see a problem with this, as it's an added post, and the person did give the right answer, but what is your thought on this?

Ok I understand now. I don't think I'm able to support both, and I would prefer to continue to do it the way I have been, but perhaps in the future when I have a larger bank account, we will revisit this.

well if an inactive member answers correctly or attempts...that would reinstate them as being active lol....just always remember to make sure the person answering is officially a member of the guild which on their home page on neopets should list us as the guild they belong to...we have alot of people who try and sign up on the boards but don't do it on the official guild at neopets....we usually catch those quickly but at times they slip in for a little while....most of the members that would come in and participate are active members

I thought I would post an update to this thread. We do still have some positions open. However, there have been several applications from brand new members. This is a good thing as it shows interest. On the other hand, it's been my experience that in the past we've had members who come and post a few times, get all interested, and then leave. It's for that reason that guild jobs are reserved for those members who have been active and consistent for a while. I don't mean for something so long as a whole year, or even six months. Each case is actually evaluated on an individual basis, there is no set limit on time that you have to be active before you can hold a job.
All of that said, if you are a new member, and you are interested in taking on one of the guild jobs, please don't lose that interest. However, until you've shown that you really are going to stick around a while, and be consistently active, please refrain from sending in your application. I think it would be much more beneficial to you to spend some time in getting to know what the guild is about, and maybe to increasing your rank before you jump into a guild job. (rank increases according to your activity..i.e. joining in on conversations, being on the boards often, etc.)
This conclusion wasn't formed at random. There have been members who have opened up threads for their new jobs, done them for a couple of weeks, and then fizzled out. That leaves a dead thread just hanging around, the website job page needs to be modified to adjust the current job holders, and it's just confusing all around to have things start and stop all over the place.
So, I hope this doesn't tread on anyone's feelings, or appear discouraging, but there it is.

A guild discount shop is supposed to benefit the guild. If you have a shop with cheaply priced things in it, any Neopet player can just go snap them up. That doesn't benefit the guild at all. You're missing the concept of what a Guild Discount shop is. If you go to the guild website and read all about them on the jobs page, in detail, you will see what a discount shop is. Discount doesn't mean "cheap"...it means a Discount on the price, for Guild Members. (Not discount as in cheap sale merchandise.) It's set up so guild members can get a lower price than the shop wiz from the owner of the discount shop. It's not so the owner makes nps from selling lots of cheaply priced items.
If you want to have a shop with cheaply priced items in it and make nps from it for your own gain, that's perfectly fine and you can even advertise it here on the boards. But that isn't what the job of Discount Shop owner is.

Oh my goodness. I give up on this one.
I think you all know that I gave this my best shot and this member just will not adhere to the way we do things around here.
I offered to let this member even advertise their shop here on the boards if they wanted to stock inexpensive items to sell. So what's the problem?
If that's what you want to do, fetalfesh, go ahead. It just won't be an official Guild Discount Shop. I've listened to everything you said, but I really don't think you listened to me at all. The reason I repeated myself was because you didn't seem to understand. As stated by you here:
quote: its not to my flippin benefit
It's not supposed to be to YOUR benefit, it's supposed to be for the benefit of the guild.
I considered deleting your post, but I feel the general membership needs to see exactly how you are behaving.
I'm sorry if you feel the need to leave the guild but that is your choice, and since you insulted me after I tried over and over to help you, that might be best. If you do stay you will be expected to apologize to me.

Before I made that last post, fetalfesh posted this:
omg u juss dont get it nvm im done u just dont listen all you do is repeat urself u sound like a robot not a person.... i get the discount shop and its not to my flippin benefit bc i throw in random expensive items and sell them for less than what i paid... u dont get that i want to help other ppl and ppl in our guild.. you dont listen...
whatever.. im done "susan/bunny/w.e" you officially made me quit this guild and realize i need to find a better one. thank you
sorry devin dollin hope we r still cool but bunny is not smart.
bye everyone
Unfortunately, this member also posted further, seriously insulting me. I have since banned and deleted this person from our boards and there is no way they will be allowed back. I'm not going to post their last remarks, but they were NOT nice. I thought the general membership should see exactly what I was dealing with here.

WOW.....
Well, I think you were more than fair, bunny. They really didn't understand the discount shop concept. The problem with how they were doing it is that any neopets owner could go in and buy their items cheaply. They didn't realize how to set it up so that only guild members get those kind of prices. And apparently they didn't bother to try to understand that. I think that if they're going to be that way over a simple misunderstanding, than maybe leaving the guild was the best thing for them to do. It's not fair for any of our members to feel like they have to put up with that kind of abuse. Sorry for your trouble bunny!

I think I was fair too. There was other discussion of this in pms, and she just didn't get it no matter how many times I tried to explain it, and in terms I thought she could understand. (and she thought I was dumb and stupid? ) But once she totally and completely insulted me, in a post I deleted immediately, I was done. She deleted the post I quoted too. I guess she didn't want anyone else to see how ridiculous she was being. However, I had already copied it just in case I needed it for some reason. You never know what kind of trouble people like that can try to cause. I spent more than enough time trying to work this out with her, and that's all the time I am willing to pull away from the rest of the nice guild members that I spend time wit.

I'm really sorry Bunny for the trouble you had to go through with this person, she was totally in the wrong and you gave her a chance, but all she wanted to do was insult you. When I recruited her she kept saying she wanted to contribute to a guild by having a discount shop and I thought that would be cool, but then she kept sending me messages telling me to buy stuff.....I'm sorry but I should of known she was just looking for profit. =(

My goodness... back you up 100% bunny with your choices. How silly to get so worked up over being told an idea they had was not going to work for the benefit of the guild. Decisions like that aren't made at random for goodness sakes and to get so worked up over it shows the immaturity of that user. It's a shame to have to ban users but sometimes that's the only option.

Hey, don't feel bad, devin...This was not your fault at all! You couldn't have known that this person would do that.

Oh no Devin, don't feel bad in the least. You had no idea this person would turn out to be like this. Most of the people we recruit are nice and make good member additions, but unfortunately there are those lovely "gems" every now and then that just foul up the works. I don't put any responsiblity for this situation on you at all, and I hope this won't discourage your from keeping up your great recruiting efforts.
If it hadn't been so late at night I might have waited for some other input as to whether to ban this person. But, I was the only one around so I made the decision I thought would be best for the guild. The thread was only going to deteriorate further with her nasty comments, so I thought cutting the worm out of the apple, so to speak, was the best course of action. It wasn't just in this thread either...there had been private messages prior to this public posting. Bad situation all the way around. Glad it's over.

I agree wholeheartedly with your decision bunny. Devin do not feel bad you are just trying to recruit we sometimes get good apples with bad apples. I am glad that membership is picking up and you are doing a great job at recruiting. Bunny you are also doing a great job as guild leader. Keep up the good work and there is no need for name calling and that kind of stuff when you are trying to explain guild benefits and someone was just being thickheaded about it.

Thanks for all the support, everyone. It's good to know you're all behind me. It was very disheartening for me to spend so much time really trying to be nice to her and help her understand what the job was, and what our guild was about, and then have her turn so mean and nasty. You guys all know me, so you know that I tried my hardest to work it out, even to the point of saying she could advertise her shop on the boards if she wanted to. I was kinda shocked by the stuff she said to me after that. It kinda blind-sided me out of the blue.
So thanks for standing with me and trusting my judgement. Means a lot to me, and makes me feel better about the whole situation.

All I can say is I wouldn't have even had that much patience with that member... You definitely did the right thing, bunny! Seems like we should have a literacy / competency test on members who join the guild? (ha)
