So I got the 'secret item' icon at the wheel of excitement just a minute ago. It says to me...
"Something mysterious has happened to your pets. You are not sure what it is, however..."
I'm really not seeing anything different about them. Is this just another way of saying "You didn't win anything at all." ?

Pretty much. In fact, it may be a good thing that nothing happened at all. Sometimes when it's vague like that one of your pets turns up sick.
