I watched the ball drop on tv. I'm actually babysitting Graci, and Nikki is here too, so the excitement isn't exactly overpowering. lol But it's ok...I'm not much into the drinking/partying scene these days.
I hope everyone has a good New Years!!!!

Never been for NYE, haha. We're DL freaks but we're not crazy. LOL. Christmas through New Years are the absolute most crowded times at Disneyland of the WHOLE year. This year, they stopped letting people in at 11am because it was already too crowded. Disneyland's capacity is 48,000 people that's a lot of people squeezed into 65 acres!

Hey, I saw a special on the travel chanel about Christmas at both DL and DW, and they showed how the Fairy Godmother lights up Cinderella's castle at DW. That's the one you posted the picture of, so I recognized it right away. They explained how they put all the lights on the castle so they didn't show much during the day, and they showed the whole lighting ceremony that they do every night and it was STUNNING. They light part of it up at a time until the entire thing is glowing and then it changed colors and patterns and it was just amazing.
I wonder what they did for NYE? Something spectacular, I'm sure.

I went to DW during the winter holiday season three years ago, and I got to see them light up Cinderella's castle. There was also a really neat performance in front of it, and they blasted confetti out everywhere!! I collected a few pieces as souvenirs.

i went out to hear a band on NYE with a group of friends...it was fun..the guy that rents out our basement rocker johnny memphis invited me to go...but mutual friends that i worked with at the radio station had invited him....when JM found out my kids were going to their dads he asked me to join them. so it was fun...then came home and worked on my neohome...lol i am not a drinker so me and JM were the designated drivers for the evening

Some traditions of ours for NYE are when there's ten seconds left, you stuff a grape in your mouth for each second of the new year (it's usually just the kids who do this) and then we got one from my aunt in Mexico. After the kissing, hugging, and all that the adults take turns taking an empty suitcase with them over the front door's threshold and then come right back inside with it. It's supposed to be a good omen that there will be lots of traveling for you in the new year and the empty suitcase symbolizes a clean start, you're taking no problems out with you and bringing none back in.

The suitcase tradition sounds interesting, Dl! I've heard of the grape-eating tradition...A lot of people in Spanish-speaking countries do that. I've never tried it. How many grapes can you fit in your mouth, if you've done it?

well there are old wives tales i heard this year and i never knew them....but some of my friends practice them....first was when my friend sherry called i was doing laundry on jan. 1st..and she told me i wasn't suppose to do that....not sure what thats about...the guy in the basement told me its something to do with...washing the spirits of the dead...or some nonsense...then the other was on new years day you are suppose to move 27 items around in your home...have no clue what thats about..one thing my family does is cook ham collards and black eyed peas....not sure what the pork repreesents but the collars represent money and the black eyed peas i think is luck for the new year....i don't eat collards...i guess i need to pick up the grapes tradition!

yeah i went to DL on new years day and it was nuts. I wanted to go NYE but im the only one out of the group that has a premium pass so no one else could go bc it was blocked out on all of the other passes =/. I think we only went on like three or four rides because the lines were so long, but i got some really cute valentines day pins that they just came out with so i was happy =)
those are some wierd traditions, the only one i have ever heard of is the kissing one =p
