This is a thread to post any ideas you might have about recruiting new members. Whether it's a membership drive, some type of competition, or another way you might think of, it would be interesting to hear your ideas.
So, please post any thoughts you might have on this subject, no matter how small or how extensive. Any contributions will be appreciated. Knowing our members I bet this thread will have some creative posts!

We could try recruiting some on the neopets forums we could also have a competition on who can deck out their shop or userlookup with the most guild promotional stuff.

Well I noticed that the more members that recruit on the boards, the better. People like to join guilds that are popular I guess. The more ads and recruiters we have, the more people will join! I think we need more ads that we could put on our lookups/shops/gallerys, like the two that kari made a while ago. It might be fun to have a competition to see who can recruit the most people. =)

We do still have the older graphics on the website that dl made some time ago. I think some of the newer members might not realize what is actually on the website that can be used.
I'm not sure if dl got all the user lookups and shop lookups working or not. I haven't seen him around the guild for a couple of days to ask him.
Maybe after we finish up the Halloween shop theme competition, we could do a guild promotional one. Sorta sandwich it in between now and Christmas. How about doing that? It would be a start.

That could be fun, but I don't think we should have any kind of a contest based on recruiting mass numbers of new members. We want to recruit quality members who will be active in the guild, participate in giveaways and contests, and not just add to the scary number size that other neopets users see when they're browsing for a guild to join. I think we should send out neomails to old (and new) members to let them know about how the guild's doing and different activities that are going on, like a little newsletter for everyone who's part of the guild. If it doesn't get guild members involved on the boards or any other way, it will at least remind people that they're part of a guild and they might become active in the future.

I'm thinking it'd be the third return of the guardian herald? It wouldn't have to be as big as it first was, but i've been reading the old guardian herald forum posts and I have a pretty good idea of how to form the newsletter, with different sections, and we could of course ask DL to be involved if he has the time.

I may be speaking out of turn for dl, but based on the conversations I've had with him lately I really don't think he's going to have time to do anything like that. It's been hard for him to find much guild time at all with work and then the fire thrown in there, and him having to pretty much take over the MM site has really limited his time.
I don't know where the idea came from that having a lot of members scares off people. I think a couple of people said that, but when I was looking for a guild I WANTED one with a large member base that had been around for a while, instead of those little fly by night deals that don't last. It used to be that the placement of the guild depended on how many members you had. The more members, the higher up on the list your guild was and the easier it was for people to find it that were looking for a new guild. So a few years ago we were trying to increase the member base to raise the guild standing.
Sometimes the member you think is least likely to stick around is the one that does. It's hard to tell who will be a good member, and who won't. That's why recruiting in numbers sometimes is a good approach. For every four or five people who join, you might have one stay.
If anyone wants to go spend time on the forums and promote the guild, that would be great. I personally don't have time to do that, but I do think it's a good idea.

I agree, I think I picked this guild because it had a lot of members and was high on the list and it was faerie themed, haha. I was quite shallow but I hit a great mark on the first try!

Yeah I have no idea why some people are scared of the big numbers, but that is usually the biggest complaint when I'm recruiting on the boards. Like Bunny said, usually 50% of the people that I recruit stay in the guild for over a week or more. =/

Since I signed up for the premium portal again, I decided that I am going to post an ad for our guild on the premium boards every time I'm online. Since there are less people on the premium boards the ad will be easier to look at and premium members are usually more serious about Neopets so we might get some dedicated new members =D. I just want to get some feedback about if everyone thinks this is a good idea or not =p.

Yes, that is a good idea. I don't go to the boards much, if at all, but maybe I can do the same.
