yep he does, he really eats it, and you don't get it back, so I would suggest trying to get the avie with a petpet you don't really like

I wonder if you have a higher chance if you use a cheap petpet or an expensive petpet.

i dunno but i rather wait with an inexpensive petpet then spend money on expensive and rare petpet and get it eaten just for the avatar.. but i never heard of this one before wonder what it looks like
