I have a question: We only have a few that are active in posting...I try not to repeat members when I am giving gifts and I try as hard as possible to be fair...So, how do I go about not repeating persons I give gifts to: for example I just picked out the same names as I did with my last gift giving, I know it is suppose to be random but does that seem fair if the same people 2 times in a row get gifts? Any advice will be helpful ;D

no i agree and what i try and do is roatate winners...until i reach the point where i have to start over. if someone post over the weekend that can only be active at those times include them in the choices...during the week its often harder for the younger or school age members to be as active. like our college aged members they have a ton of responsiblities and exams...some are not even able to be as active on the weekends as they would like and the younger members have other obligations and bed times as well such as sports of other activities. so just keep an eye out for those who attempt to be around even if its periodical and their other obligations to their life and ages. like my son drew...he has to fight his activities...well both of my kids it seems like during the week we are on the go constantly,... drew is involved in sports and other activities that require his weekends to some extent but then has to volley between his older brother and me or their father for the computer. they got a lap top for christmas but we had problems with the first one..got it replaced but now can't get the modem to work for their computer to be wireless or to hook it to mine. and i know we have several college students. so just look at post daily and then try to find new posters and just go through each member til you run out of members who are partcipating at some point ..then start over. that is how i do it anyway.

Well I try to do it more random... Or if I am online when someone is online and I am doing a giveaway it is more likely they will get it.... unless they were the winner of my last giveaway.

lol..Mine is completely random. lol. Normally, I just watch for who has been active. Sometimes, before I even get online, I think...okay...the last person to post in *insert thread name here* is going to be my winner. I kinda pick em just...however I'm feeling that day. lol. I do keep a running list on my computer of everyone who has won my giveaway in order. This way, I can look back and see, no...they've won like...four times and I know that *somebody* hasn't won at all, then...I go in and kinda re-evaluate my thinking like...okay..the THIRD to last person who posted whereever. Also, on my list, I change the colors of the names. For instance, right now...people who have won are in black on my list...anyone who has won twice is in red, when I start going on a third time around...they'll be a different color. Just...kind of as a record for me so that I'm not always having the same four people winning, you know?

it's very nice that you are even asking gaudian! believe me, it can get very difficult doing giveaways, especially in times of "drought" as I call it when members can't be all that active, I used to make up a list of everyone that had posted the week prior to my giveaways, or at least those that I noticed and then i would put those names in a hat, when i drew out names, I kept them out, of course like everyone else has said, if someone was getting incredibly lucky and i kept drawing their name, i'd throw it out and go for another name so that more people were winning, after i drew the name, i'd check out their lookup and hit neoitems to find them something spiffy that was hopefully within price range course sometimes i went a little over in price because it was such a great gift... but shhhh! don't tell anyone! ;D

i use to keep a list and i need to start back to doing that....the reason i do mine the way i do it is because first at one time and for a long time i was the only gift giver and wanted to make sure i didn't forget people it was hard cause i was only doing two a week and sometimes someone would show up that hadn't been around for a while and i would pick them as the winner showing them they were noticed and appreciated being back...and another reason is if there is only one gift giver i wanted to give everyone a chance to win...now its so great we have so many givers but i still try and pick a new person each week because i am doing such a large prize that i want everyone to have a chance at winning it without repeats until there are no members that haven't won that has been active. now my way isn't fool proof...but again i need to start listing my winners. but i do try and go back and see who has already won the giveaway and pick someone active that hasn't won it yet.

I for one appreciate it and I also personally know how difficult it can be to keep track as well as keep on schedule with it I know that in my current situation with my divorce and everything going on that there is no possible way for me to be active enough in the guild to even consider a giveaway, besides that i wiped my bank account out upgrading my shop to a size 53 and buying all the christmas stuff to display way back in december for the christmas theme (i still haven't changed it or my user lookup yet ) either way, i just wanted everyone that is giving gifts to know that you are all appreciated no matter how you are doing your giveaways!!!!

thanks for the support lindsey..i agree...its not about the method as much as the fun of getting to shop for others or on the other end of getting a prize...thats always fun!!!!

Not being an official giftgiver, I'm not so sure I can give ya advice on that.. But I wanted to give some moral support to our wonderful and generous giftgivers! ;D Just wanted to say...*all* of your giveaways, no matter how often or what method or what prize, are appreciated and enjoyed by everyone in the guild, I think it's safe to say. There's been an increase in giftgiver jobs recently, too...which just spreads even more joy. All of it is so positive, I'd think that as long as your way of choosing winners is remotely fair, no one could complain.

I keep a list of who I've given prizes to so that one member doesn't win more than another. (I try anyway) It's hard to always find someone posting that you haven't given to for a while, but I do try to find a recent post, and then if I haven't given to that member for a while I choose them. It's not very scientific!! lol But I do try to be fair and spread prizes around as evenly as I can. If anyone thinks I've missed them please pm and let me know!
