Hey Fairy, It's good to hear you are back home.... Just take it easy for a while, don't over do it, laundry can wait...give yourself some time to heal, you have been on one heck of a "rollercoaster ride" so to say. Relax and pamper yourself for a while....you deserve it! I wish you the best on a fast recovery.

well i finially had my gastrological appt today...with dr ansari lol i call him dr "i sorry" cause he ticked me off on my first meeting with him and i was not nice...but he really took it well but needless to say he hasn't forgotten me lol...and even remembered who all was with me. anyway i have to go to the hospital again (not to stay...god willing) but they want to do another EGD or EDG and investigate further down into my stomach..still looking for ulcers and they are wondering if the bottom of my stomach that empties into my bowels has shrunk and causing me to throw up because i am not emptying my stomach as i should...they discovered i still had fermented food in my stomach after days of throwing up and on a day of fasting before surgery...so if they get in there this time and find a shrinkage then they are going to try and balloon it bigger so that maybe i will empty like a normal person..if not then they might have to go in and surgically stretch that canal or tube...thats the latest...but the search continues lol,,.

Oh goodness, Lisa...that doesn't sound fun at ALL. Maybe this time they will find something they can actually fix and make you better. Let's hope so.

That doesn't sound like fun lisa, but hopefully they are closer to an answer to what is causing you so much pain.

hey all...i went back in to the hospital today for the other EGD test...they take the camera and stick it down your throat and look into your stomach. they went futher this time because i told them i didn't think my stomach was getting rid of food like it should and after a couple days of eating i would feel bloated and miserable. so they were looking at where my stomach emptys food and for ulcers further down in my stomach. they found that indeed where my stomach empty's the tube is damaged and is twice as small as it should be so its blocking my emptying. they aren't sure if i have a tumor or its just major damage due to ulcers i have had in the past that weren't found. but the tube was so small they had intended today if possible into stretching that ttube by a balloon..they weren't able to get the tube in because of the shrinkage. so they are now going to get me an appt at Duke for them to go in and investigate and widen the tube..i just hope there isn't a tumor..that sounds like that might would be a very bad thing! so anyway i would appreciate any prayers you can pray for me. thanks

my appt isn't until dang april 23!! i mean thats a mighty long wait when my stomach won't leave my stomach and the only way is after a few days of eating i end up throwing all the food back up....literally nothing is being absorbe by my body no vitiamins nutrients nothing. and from what i read the surgery i think i am having to face is very scary...but heck i don't even know when that will be the 23rd is just getting to meet the surgeon and have some test done...i just wish it was all over all of it recovery and all....from what i have read i might even be in duke for 5 to 7 days and still have to go back and have stuff removed that drains my stomach til the parts heal they have to reroute....sometimes i wish i didn't read cause i was fine til now..but duke is an outstanding hosptial and the surgeon is highly recommended and was voted among his peers as one they would pick to treat themselves and family members...still doesn't make what i have to deal with feel better lol

I'm sorry you are having to go through this lisa, but at least now they know what's wrong. That really sucks that you have to wait that long to get in to see the surgeon. I will be praying for you! Are your doctors at least having you take vitamins so that your getting some kind of nutrients that you need? I would think you would need to since you're not able to digest anything.

well i went to duke hospital yesterday..they said the surgery i will need is a re-routing type surgery. the tube that is shrunk or not working will have to be cut off...then the part that is still good moved to another location on my stomach to empty food. they said if i do the surgery they will have to keep me til the tube realizes where it now has to go to empty. i guess just like learning to walk again, your body has to learn new routes or ways as well. but the bad things is they refuse to do the surgery until i quit smoking. they said that smoking on top of the 6-10 goody powders i was taking a day is what caused this problem. i really think it was the goody powders because on an empty stomach much less as many as i was taking really eats up the lining of a stomach. so before i can even consider the surgery i have to quit my only stress relief..smoking...UGGG!!!! they might as well told me i need to have my feet removed! i know its bad for you and it will only be a great thing for me to quit..but good grief i can't even imagine. i think it would be easier if they asked me to only breath once every hour. anyway that is what is new with me.

I know how hard it is to try to quit smoking. I've tried to quit so many times. I have actually been thinking about quitting myself, so if you want we can quit together. I know what you're saying. Every time I try to quit, everything just gets even more stressful than it already is. I always gain weight every time i try to quit. So this is going to be super hard for me this time since I've also went on a diet and I'm exercising trying to lose weight now! Hopefully the recovery won't take too long. I'll keep you in my prayers and if you need to lean on someone about quitting, i'm here.

thanks lol i haven't started trying yet but have started working on programs to help me quit. there is a class taught at our local hospital that even offers the patch or nicotine gum as a package to help. its only 50.00 and if you bring home less than i think 1500 a week you can do it for 5.00...seeings how i don't work i get to take the class and get the patch or gum for 5.00s. so its a no lose situation for me...but i really am not a fan of the patch

Hey lisa, I haven't been on in a while, but I just read where you have been told to stop smoking....My husband was hypnotized 13 years ago and hasn't touched one since his one session. It took my cousin 2 sessions and he stopped 3 weeks after my husband. you might consider that route if you need help along the way. I do wish you luck in your process.... It'sa hard thing to do I know, I quite as well years ago, but on my own terms of will power, back sliding and more will power and about 5 months later I had my last one. That too was about 13 years ago. I wish you the stregnth and power to be able to overcome it.... Your on my prayer list... I'm praying your medical situation gets under control quickly and you have a full healing. Keep the faith! PJ

thank you all so much for your support..heck i might try it all cause smoking is my only weakness i don't drink and try to live a clean life style but i started smoking back when i was young and foolish and didn't know better..13 years old to be exact when i picked up my first cigarette...so to all the younger folks in here learn the lesson i didn't...don't ever start picking up any addictions cause they are addictions that will take hold of your life and when you realize how much you are addicted getting of the addiction is much harder than starting them

I was 13 when I smoked my first cigarette also. It's been 16 years and I've tried to quit before, but it's one of the hardest things I've ever done. I tried the patch a couple of weeks ago, but it broke my arm out and burned when I put it on, so that route's out! I don't like to chew gum, but I thought I would try those Commit losenges next. My only trouble is being able to afford the products to help you quit smoking! I may look into being hypnotized, cuz I have talked to a few people that had it done and it worked for them. My only problem is affording it. So I'm still smoking for now, but I really really want to quit, I thought I could do it cold turkey but after half a day of no nicotine I was very very cranky and jittery so I went and bought some smokes. Tell Art congrats on no smoking for 5 months, non smokers don't realize what an accomplishment that really is!
Any updates on your medical situation lisa?

thanks tiffy... and tanzi...our hospital offers a quit smoking class...its $50.00 but if your income is below a certain amount you paid accordingly...like my child support didn't count against me so my income is really zero....so i was able to take the class for $5.00. and in that class they provided you with the prescription strength patch...and also you can wear the patch on the back of your shoulder... and also the Commit losenges or gum is given to you and as much as you need til you quit i suppose...your dr has to approve any of the upper options...they also say the losenges are addictive which is why my dr wouldn't approve of it...and dumb me not thinking of what i was saying in class...was whats the difference in a losenge and gum..they all have nicotine..i'd rather suck something than have to chew....well you can imagine how that went over. but i would rather had the losenges. i would love to try hynosis too but i haven't heard of it being offered anywhere around here. i am on the chantix...but since easter break i haven't taken them like i am suppose to and starting to smoke like i was normally. i was down to 10 a day..but the class also taught me trying to quit while you have more stress than normal is due failure. so i will try to do better when school starts back
