This might be of interest to some of you. At the Smithsonian Zoo, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian have produced a tiny little baby panda. They are endangered, so this is a big deal. You may have read about them before. They are on loan to us from China, so when this baby panda gets about two or three, we have to give him/her back to China. But for now, if you want to try to get a glimps of the baby, there is a Panda Cam that you can use to see Mei Xiang, and occasionally you can get a glimpse of the baby. But they are very tiny at birth, so it's hard. I think it will be really fun when it gets a bit older though. Here is the link: nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/GiantPandas/Scroll all the way down and you'll see the Panda Cam. You may have to click on "ready" several times before it connects, but it will eventually. I think it's interesting, and thought some of you might like it too.

It took me a little while to get connected today, too.
It's getting so I have to check on them before I go to bed, and then first thing in the morning, and off and on all day! If anything happens to that little cub I'm going to be so sad! I hope it can make it through the first couple of weeks..that's the hardest time for them. It's amazing that she doesn't roll on the baby when she's sleeping, cause it's so little, but she doesn't!

You're welcome! I'm glad everyone is enjoying them as much as I am. They updated the website and said that they are both doing well as far as they can tell. No one goes into the den, they only watch them on the cams. And the mom doesn't eat or drink for weeks while the baby is tiny.
It's funny...the little cub was born on July 9th, which is my son's birthday.

That's so cool, bunny! Your son shares the birthday of a panda cub.

Last night I got to see the baby for a long time. Mei was lying on her back, with the cub on her tummy. It wasn't clear because the focus just isn't that good, but I could hear it make noises and see it wiggling around. I can't wait until it gets a bit bigger!
(so....here I am at 2:00 a.m. staring at a little screen on my computer, watching a little blob move around...kinda makes you wonder, huh? ;D )

I'm on my other computer right now, and it loaded all the way until a dialog box popped up and said 'Do you want to install and run Microsoft Video Media 9 Codec?' Something like that. Should I click yes or something? Did it pop up for you guys?

I would do it because you probably need to have the most up to date version on your puter to do it.
I've been watching the cam for about 7 minutes now and it really is fascinating!!! I wonder what the difference is between the two cams they look like two different pandas cuz they're in two different positions!! but its so amazing!! I really wanna see the baby!! I seen her roll around and she was looking like me trying to roll around on the bed to get comfy with my big belly!! I was like awwwe how cute!!

If you turn up your sound, you can hear the baby when Mei moves around. It kinda squeals. It doesn't do it as much now as it did at first though. Poor Mei....all she has had in a week is two drinks of water! She's only left the baby twice, for three minutes each time. (I hope you get to eat a little more than that after your little guy is born, Stargem! )
