This picture isn't great, but you can see how big he is getting in comparison to his mommy.  This is some of what the staff had to say: The cub is so big that it takes her mouth and both paws to awkwardly flip him for a thorough washing. We are still eagerly awaiting those first steps from the cub. |

So do I! But I think it's really wonderful that they set up the pandacam so that we can see the cub's growth. It's been so fascinating just watching him grow up. Mei is such a good mother...must be all instinct because she hasn't been around tons of pandas to see how it's done.

It's all so incredible..  I love how even though we may be so distant from where the pandas are we still know what's going on..with the pandacam and pictures and updates.. |

Ohhhh thanks Bunny for your updates. I always mean to get on the website but one thing leads to another and I forget. But I love how you are posting the pics. He is soo adorable. He is getting so big! Wish I could have one lol.

maybe it was because in the other picture he was beside his mother which of course is much bigger but i really am shocked at seeing his size next to a human. but what a cutie!!!! oh gosh just like a stuffed animal.

News from the Fujifilm Giant Panda Habitat September 25: A Normal Day The cub continues to try to stand but still without success. Mei Xiang spent long times away from the cub yesterday, and interacted with Tian Tian through the mesh. All in all, a normal day with no new milestones to report. How cute he is trying to stand! He must look adorable when he stumbles over. Thanks Bunny for posting the link. The pictures of him are sooo cute. And to look at how much he has grown is amazing. I hope I win the naming contest haha.  |

He's taking his first steps!!!!
September 29: Cub Takes a Few Steps
The cub lifted himself on all four legs this morning and took about three steps before collapsing on his side. The sounds of his efforts brought Mei Xiang back into the den. After picking him up and giving him a good once over with both eyes and tongue, she left him sleeping, and stretched out on the platform for a nap.

He has new teeth and he's really walking !!!!  This is what the staff has to report: His majesty had his eighth exam this morning. He weighs 12.7 lbs and is 25.5 inches long. He has his incisors and canines now, both upper and lower ones. Shall we say "ouch" for Mei Xiang? Right after all the stimulation of the 16-minute exam, the cub walked around the den, to the other side of the platform and into the other half of the den. He then returned to his corner and later traveled again, all the way to the other side.

The baby is 100 days old today, and his new name is: And I'm happy because that's the name I voted for. It means "peaceful mountain." There is an alternate site for the pandacam that sometimes comes in better than the usual one. It's on the Animal Planet site, animal.discovery.com/cams/pandavidr.html |
