It takes a few tries to get into the pandacam, but boy is it worth it! I've seen the baby a LOT today. Right now Mei is sleeping and the baby is nestled under her chin. She put him in the nest this afternoon and the camera stayed on him until she got back, so I really got a good look at him! He can't roll over yet but he was sure trying. He makes the cutest noises! It's so sweet the way Mei picks him up and holds him.

He is getting so adorable!!! Lots of the time Mei puts him down now, and the camera just zooms right in on him. Here's a new pic and recent info:  August 30: At Fourth Exam, Cub Weighs 6.2 Pounds We did our fourth cub exam this morning The cub now weighs 6.2 pounds. We did not get an accurate head measurement due to his squirming and fussing. His body length (from the base of the skull to the head of the tail) was ten inches, 3/4 inch longer than it was at his last exam, on August 18. The chest girth was 13 inches, an inch more than before. His heart and lungs sound healthy. |

Oh wow, it had been a couple of weeks since I had gone to the site to see the cub! He's grown so much! Too cute. I made sure to vote for the cub's name...I would love to win a trip to the zoo! |

When I went to check on the cub tonight, I read this update: September 4: Overnight Watch Ends Yesterday was a pretty routine day for Mei Xiang and her cub. Mei Xiang wasn't interested in getting weighed or going into her training cage. She spent the day eating, resting, and caring for her cub. The cub continues to do "wheelies" when he tries to crawl. With everything going so well, we ended the 24-hour watch that began before the cub's birth. Now, volunteers will be watching mother and cub, and moving the cameras, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., each day. They are leaving the camera in a wide-angle view overnight so cam viewers can see both mother and cub. As the cub develops, there will be occasional 24-hour watches to document developmental milestones. So, if you want to see the little guy up close, you have to do it before 7:00 p.m. You can still see him after that, but just not as close. Right now Mei is holding him and sleeping, at least as much as he lets her. I sure hope they don't decide to discontinue the webcam altogether. I would hate not being able to see them after I've watched them for so long. |
